When looking at antivirus comparisons, you may want to include protecting your WordPress blog in the mix. In a recent report by security firm Webence, almost 30,000 WordPress blogs comprising of more than 200,000 pages have been infected by a cybercriminal gang. This infection allows them to distribute fake antivirus software through the infected blog. The pages typically have a link that redirects viewers to a webpage which performs fake antivirus scans of your computer. Such scans are not new, but these cybercriminals appear to be using a drive-by download approach, which allows them to automatically exploit vulnerabilities in outdated browser plug-ins. So simply by visiting the webpage, you may inadvertently download and install their rogue software.
